Seismic Vulnerability Assessment and Retrofit Design of Ameer Bhawan, Kathmandu

  • Client: Hama Steel
  • Project Year: 2015
  • Location: Ameer Bhawan Kamladi, Kathmandu

The seismic vulnerability assessment and retrofit design of Ameer Bhawan was completed by Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS) in March 2015. The building is in Kamaladi, Kathmandu. By completing these tasks, ESS provided Ameer Bhawan with a comprehensive seismic vulnerability assessment and retrofit design, enabling the building to be better prepared for future earthquakes.

Tasks Completed for Ammer Bhawan:

  • Seismic Vulnerability Assessment
    • Site Visit and Inspection: Conducted a thorough visual inspection of the building to identify potential vulnerabilities.
    • Non-Destructive Testing: Performed tests to assess the structural integrity of the building components.
    • Review of Available Drawings: Analyzed existing architectural and structural plans.
    • Qualitative Assessment: Conducted a preliminary assessment to identify potential weak points.
  • Seismic Retrofit Design
    • Computational Modeling: Developed a 3D structural model of the building.
    • External Force Application: Applied seismic loads to the model to simulate earthquake conditions.
    • Internal Force Calculation: Determined the internal forces acting on the building members.
    • Deformation and Capacity Analysis: Assessed the deformation and capacity of the members and the building.
    • Results Interpretation: Analyzed the results to identify weak links and potential failure mechanisms.
