Training Workshop on Earthquake Resistant and Resilient Infrastructure Construction Practices in Kalimpong

The Government of West Bengal, Office of the District Magistrate, Kalimpong, Disaster Management Section, organized a one-day training workshop on earthquake-resistant and resilient infrastructure construction practices on January 21st, 2025. Facilitated by Anugyalaya Darjeeling Diocese Social Service Society, with technical expertise provided by the National Society for Earthquake Technology Nepal (NSET) and Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS).

The workshop covered crucial topics such as building earthquake-resistant houses, enhancing infrastructure resilience, and retrofitting existing structures. A total of 50 participants, including Block Development Officers (BDOs), Block Disaster Management Officers (BDMOs), Junior Engineers (JEs), Technical Assistants (TAs), and Skilled Technical Personnel (STP) from all four blocks of Kalimpong District, along with Assistant Engineers (AEs) and Junior Engineers (JEs) from the Public Works Department (PWD), engineers from the Irrigation Division, and engineers from the Kalimpong Municipality under the GTA, attended the workshop. The inaugural session, graced by the presence of District Magistrate Mr. Balasubramanian, IAS, and District Disaster Management Officer Mr. Prakash Mridha, emphasized the critical importance of adopting earthquake-resilient construction practices and retrofitting techniques to ensure safer and more sustainable infrastructure development in the region.
