Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction Efforts in Darjeeling were concluded.
Anugyalaya Darjeeling Diocese Social Service Society, a local NGO, has successfully conducted a series of disaster risk reduction (DRR) events in the Darjeeling district. These events focused on raising awareness about Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) and earthquakes, sharing findings of seismic risk assessment, and evaluating Anugyalaya’s organizational capacity for DRR work.
The first event, held on August 28th in Kalimpong Municipality, aimed to sensitize local stakeholders and NGO networks about the potential risks posed by GLOF and earthquakes. Local experts provided insights into GLOF, while the Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS) team presented earthquake risk management and preparedness strategies.
On August 30th, a district consultation was organized to discuss the results of a recent seismic risk assessment of Darjeeling municipality. Local Stakeholders had the opportunity to review the findings, identify areas of concern, and provide feedback on potential risk reduction measures.
The final event, held on August 31st, focused on evaluating Anugyalaya’s organizational capacity for DRR activities. The assessment identified strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement, which will inform the organization’s future DRR initiatives.
These events were organized by the Anugyalaya Darjeeling Diocese Social Service Society, supported by Caritas Germany, and technical expertise was provided by the National Society for Earthquake Technology Nepal (NSET) in association with Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS).
