The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal Organized Community Search and Rescue (CSAR) Training for Its Team

On November 6, 2025, the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal organized a one-day Community Search and Rescue (CSAR 1001) training for 32 staff members, with technical facilitation by Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS).

The training aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity in emergency preparedness and response, equipping them with essential life-saving skills to act effectively during disasters.

Key highlights of the training included:

  • Hands-on practice in multiple room search techniques, safe lifting and moving of heavy objects, victim extrication methods, and bucket brigade fire response operations as a basic fire suppression technique, along with the proper use of fire extinguishers.
  • Guidance on establishing and managing functional search and rescue squads, emphasizing safety protocols and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

This initiative underscored the importance of community and institutional-level preparedness, recognizing that local responders are often the first to act during emergencies. By enhancing their skills and coordination, the training contributes to more effective and safer rescue operations at the community level.
