Earthquake Preparedness Orientation for Students at Brihaspati Vidya Sadan(BVS)
On June 27, 2025, Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS) conducted three separate orientations on earthquake risk reduction and preparedness for students in Grades 1 to 9 at Brihaspati Vidya Sadan in Maligaun, Kathmandu. The orientations were designed to suit the understanding levels of the different age groups and were held consecutively throughout the day.
To ensure effective learning, students were grouped as follows:
- Basic Level (Grades 1–4, 247 students): A fun and interactive session incorporating storytelling, cartoons, and animated videos effectively taught young learners about earthquakes. This approach clarified what an earthquake is and provided essential safety tips for before, during, and after.
- Intermediate Level (Grades 5–7, 284 students): This session covered the fundamentals of earthquake science, its effects, and recommended non-structural safety practices for schools and homes, including how to remain safe before, during, and after an earthquake.
- Advanced Level (Grades 8–9, 263 students): An in-depth orientation covered the causes of earthquakes, risk mitigation strategies, and preparedness techniques, including safety measures before, during, and after an earthquake, designed for grade 8-9 students.
A total of 794 students participated in three separate orientation sessions. Additionally, teachers from their respective classes attended to reinforce earthquake safety learning.
Through age-appropriate and level-based programs, ESS aims to nurture a generation that is informed, aware, and equipped to respond confidently and safely during emergencies.
