Dev Kumar Maharjan

CEO

Mr. Dev Kumar Maharjan has been serving as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a technical lead at Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS). He is a structural engineer by profession. Mr. Maharjan has completed Masters’ degree in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology from Rose School, University of Pavia, Italy and University of Patras, Greece under Erasmus Mundus scholarship program “Masters in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (MEEES)” funded by European Union Consortium in 2009-2011. Working as a CEO to ESS, he has wide range of responsibilities but not limited to formulating strategic planning and policies, managing, and providing leadership for effective implementation of business plan. He is also responsible to provide all technical guidance to his team as a technical director. Mr. Maharjan has experience in undertaking earthquake vulnerability assessment and retrofit design of buildings and is familiar with international building codes globally. He has worked as project engineer for Building Code Implementation Program in Municipalities of Nepal (BCIPN) supported by USAID/OFDA and Quality Assurance Manager for the Seismic Vulnerability Assessment, Retrofit Design and Implementation of Retrofit construction of schools buildings for Nepal Safer School Project NSSP funded by DFID. He has led more than 100 building assessment project including high rise apartment buildings.

Deepak Shrestha

Project Engineer

Mr. Deepak Shrestha is a Civil engineer with the degree of civil engineering from IOE, Pulchowk campus with first division. He has more than 6 years experience over the construction management sector. He had worked as site engineer for CE Construction Pvt Ltd where he had been engaged in construction activities & supervised 3 major projects before and now he has been working with Earthquake Safety Solutions ESS since December 2015 as Project Engineer for various constructional and retrofitting work conducted under the design and supervision of ESS. He has good experience in project management and resource mobilization as he was involved in several construction projects in Nepal with private sectors for more than 2 and half years before joining ESS in December 2015. Mr. Shrestha has also engaged in "Post Disaster Need Assessment Program" conducted by National Development Volunteer Service (NDVS) as volunteer civil engineer in Ramechhap district which is one of the affected district due to the major earthquake and its aftershock occurred at 12th, 13th and 29th Baishak 2072 for 2 months duration (May 2015 to July 2015). Before involvement in NDVS he has actively participated in “Rapid Visual Assessment of Earthquake Affected Buildings” program conducted by Nepal Engineering Association immediately after major earthquake and inspected more than 250 affected residential building around Kathmandu district. Furthermore, as NVDS Volunteer Engineer, he has been selected as the team coordinator for the district under which he has coordinated his 12 team member (civil engineers) and also worked as volunteer of technical sector in engineer post under District Technical Office, Ramechhap for the end of the fiscal year 2071/72.

Dipu Chapagain

Civil Engineer

Mr. Dipu Chapagain is an enthusiastic Civil Engineer by profession and was associated with ESS since April 2016. He has been involved with ESS in various seismic risk reduction projects such as supervision of new building construction projects. He also works as a quantity surveyor of the various retrofitting projects designed by ESS. He keenly involves in the monitoring of safety and daily work progress at the construction sites during the supervision. Additionally, he was also involved in assisting the communities in building earthquake resilient structures through awareness raising, capacity building and actions on risk reduction and preparedness trainings. His responsibilities at ESS include working as a site engineer in designated construction sites and assisting in various other ongoing projects. He was associated with NSET at School Earthquake Safety Program (SESP) as a Construction site supervisor as he was involved in school construction projects before joining ESS. Mr. Chapagain holds Bachelors’ Degree in Civil Engineering from, Institute of Engineering, (IOE, Pulchowk Campus), Tribhuvan University, Nepal. His Final year Project was “Structural Seismic Vulnerability Assessment and retrofit design”. He has experience in working as a site engineer for various construction sites in Sindhuli, Dolakha; including Construction of earthquake resistant buildings for official purposes and Seismic retrofitting of existing buildings.

Hari Basnet

Civil Engineer

Mr. Hari Basnet is civil engineer with the degree of civil engineering from Acme Engineering College. He has more than 3 years’ experience over the construction management sector. Previously he had worked as site engineer for comfort housing Pvt Ltd where he had been engaged in construction activities & supervised major projects. He has been working with Earthquake Safety Solutions ESS since February 2017 as Civil Engineer for various constructional and retrofitting work conducted under the design and supervision of ESS. He has good experience in project site supervision and resource mobilization as he was involved in several construction projects in Nepal with private sectors for more than 2 years before joining ESS in February 2017.

Prakash Maharjan

Senior Draftperson

Mr. Prakash Maharjan is draft person by profession with the Diploma in Architectural engineering. He has more than 12 years’ experience of drawing and drafting in variety of projects ranging from buildings to hydropower. He has also worked in cost estimation and BOQ preparation. He is also involved in architectural design of residential, school and other buildings. Prior to joining ESS Mr. Maharjan was involved in the site supervision of building projects. He has good experience in resource mobilization as he was involved in several construction projects with various government organizations.

Nirjana Palanchoke

Architect

Ms. Nirjana Palanchoke is an Architect by profession and has been working with ESS since September 2016 for architectural planning,designing,detail drawing,3d,interior design.Her responsibilities at ESS include developing of conceptual planning and designing for earthquake risk reduction, field visit, architectural and structural detail drawing. . Ms. Nirjana Palanchoke holds Bachelor in Architecture from Khwopa Engineering College, Purwanchal University, Nepal. Her bachelor thesis title is Thesis in “Grass skii resort” Nuwakot, Nepal (B. Arch 2013).She has work experienced in Nepal and Thailand. She has worked as an architect in CAGE consult Pvt. Ltd for two years.At there,She was involved in several hospital, corporate, commercial, residential, institutional buildings projects. At ESS,She has been working in community,residential building design and planning,estimating,seismic retrofitting of residential building,3ds,interior.She has also experience on different training program held by NSET, ESS.

Ran Bahadur Limbu

Civil Sub-Engineer

Mr. Ran Bahadur Limbu is a Civil Sub-engineer. He has Diploma in Civil Engineering from Thapathali campus IOE, Kathmandu. He was Involve in developing the mechanism in municipalities for institutionalization of Building Code. He has gained the experience as Civil Sub-Engineer of Building code Implementation Program in Municipalities of Nepal, 9 municipalities of Central part of Nepal during initial phase of BCIPN. not only that he has involved in Conducting numerous orientation programs for communities on Earthquake Basics, preparedness and earthquake resistant building construction. and so on Mr. Limbu was also engaged on Facilitation for celebrating Earthquake Safety Day at different municipalities. Earthquake Safety Day is celebrated commemorating the 1934 Great devastating earthquake. This day is celebrated at different districts with the lead of District Administration Office. He has received the training on Training on Community Light Search and Rescue Conducted. Training on Training for Instructors (TFI) for five days organized by NSET and Training on Participatory Mapping Training organized by American Red Cross.

Suraj Thapa

Structural Engineer

Mr. Suraj Thapa has been working at Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS) since June 2019. He completed his Masters in Structural Engineering on May 2017 from Asian Institute of Technology. He has worked with various organization such as Golcha Organization, Miyamoto International Nepal (MIN) etc in the past and gained expertise in his area of work. During his internship he has worked in preparation of design examples to the book “Structural Cross- Sections: Analysis and Design” by Naveed Anwar and has even exposure outside Nepal. Mr. Thapa has his expertise in Damage Assessment, preparation of reports, performance-based analysis of the existing building, preparation of seismic strengthening option for structure as well as Structural Analysis and Retrofit Design structural drawing. Most often he has his involvement in the preparation of analysis model and site supervision for various projects.

Meera Chikanbanjar

Structural Engineer

Ms. Meera Chikanbanjar holds a Masters’ Degree in Earthquake Engineering from Thapathali Campus, Kathmandu, Nepal. She completed her Masters’ Degree in June 2019. Not only Ms. Chikanbanjar received training related to her field of work but has been involved in the publication of various books. She also has been awarded certificate in recognition of contribution with paper presentation at IOE Graduate Conference during May 24-25, 2019 at Pulchowk, Lalitpur, Nepal. During her undergraduate studies, she has been awarded as semester topper for two semesters. Ms. Chikanbanjar has been involved in various project at Earthquake Safety Solutions form June 2019. In various project, she has expressed her expertise in Rapid Vulnerability Assessment (RVA) and Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Buildings. She also plans and manages training programs for technicians, masons, and engineers. She has her active participation in Awareness Raising, Emergency Preparedness Training and Enumerators Training as well. During her professional career, she also has been engaging herself in designing, drafting, estimating, structural analysis and drawing for residential, commercial, and public buildings, site supervision and preparation of proposals and reports.

Bimarsha Kaphle

Civil Engineer

Having completed Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering in December 2017 from Thapathali Campus, Institute of Engineering, Kathmandu. Mr. Bimarsha Kaphle has been working in the field of engineering since past 4 works to enhance his expertise in the same. Mr. Kaphle has been working at Earthquake Safety Solutions from 2019. During his professional life he has undertaken technical and feasibility studies including site investigation, Project management and supervision. Similarly, he has his active involvement in Site layout, grading, wash station/utility design, erosion control, estimation, etc. He has his expertise in ensuring smooth operation of projects to complete the work within budget and on time along with preparation of Bill of Quantity, analysis of rate, specification of civil works. Mr. Kaphle has been assigned with numerous Site supervision for new construction during his work tenure at ESS.

Ms. Rita Maharjan

Architect Engineer

Ms. Rita Maharjan holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Architecture Engineering from Institute of Engineering Pulchowk Campus, Kathmandu, Nepal. She completed her Bachelors Degree in June 2010 with first Division. Not only Ms. Maharjan received training related to her field of work but has been involved in the Department of Urban Development and building Construction, Division office Kathmandu as an Architect Engineer. She had her responsibilities on overall Architectural projects of division office, DUDBC, Preparation of drawing of all kinds of Architectural ,Structural ,electrical ,Sanitary, Seismic Vulnerability Assessment and post disaster assessment of Government Buildings assist in checking drawings of all types of projects submitted for approval. She has been working in District Level Project Implementation Unit (DLPIU)-Kathmandu for National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Project as an Architect not only that she has been involved Space Model Architect (p) Ltd) as Senior Architect.

Mr. Santosh Kumar Shrestha

Civil Engineer

Mr. Santosh Kumar Shrestha has been working at Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS) since October 2021. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering on May 2017 from Advanced college of engineering & Management.

Ms. Kriti Rajkarnikar

Urban Planners

Ms. Kriti Rajkanikar has completed her Master's degree in Infrastructure planning from Universitate Stuttgart, Germany. She completed her Master's degree in 2016. she was involved in different activities performed relevant to the Assignment. In 2020, she hold position as consultant planning and architecture in feasibility study and conceptual Land development scheme of the proposed land pooling sites Nepal of Budhanilkantha Municipality ward no 4,5,& 6 and Tokha Municipality ward no 2,3 & 6. She performed, Assist Team Leader for the guidance of team member regarding developing methodologies, Survey data collection design report writing in order to complete the assigned task in the stipulated time. Not only that she was also engaged on DFID retrofitting project in 2018-2019 as Project Support Coordinator-Retrofit. She assisted as project manager in project planning for delivering 1000 earthquake resistant retrofitting drawing package and construction in DFID 31 District Retrofitting Project. In 2016-2018 she was staff architect at Abritti Project-Rebuild and Repair residential housing damaged and destroyed in Gorkha earthquake 2015. She was involved in government earthquake beneficiary enrolment program at Sanga chowk Sindhupalchowk and dhunkharka, Kavre.

Ms. Anuja Dangol

Draft Person

Ms. Anuja Dangol is a Draft Person. she worked as an Architectural Draft Designer for 9 Years. She has completed her Bachelor's from Patan multiple college, lalitpur at 2073.

DR. BISHNU PANDEY P. ENG.

Technical Advisor

Dr. Bishnu Pandey is a faculty in British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Dr. Pandey is involved in seismic assessment, design and retrofitting works in Asia and North America since 2000. In 2002-2004, he served as the technical Team Leader of earthquake safety projects including seismic mitigation of schools, hospitals and building code implementation in Nepal at NSET. Dr. Pandey has worked in a UN center for regional development where he managed projects on seismic upgrading of schools, housing safety and code implementation targeting Asia- pacific countries. He worked at the University of British Columbia on development of performance-based standard for seismic retrofitting in BC. Dr. Pandey has served as seismic consultant to a number of international organizations including World Bank, Save the Children and UN agencies. In the aftermath of 2015 earthquake, Dr. Pandey led of the engineering team of Canada for reconnaissance survey followed by research on the earthquake and reconstruction work
