Mr. Dev Kumar Maharjan serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Earthquake Safety Solutions-ESS. He is a structural engineer by profession. Mr. Maharjan has completed Master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology from Rose School, University of Pavia, Italy and University of Patras, Greece under Erasmus Mundus scholarship program “Masters in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (MEEES)” funded by European Union Consortium in 2009-2011. Serving as a CEO to ESS, he has wide range of responsibilities but not limited to formulating strategic planning and policies, managing and providing leadership for effective implementation of business plan. He is also responsible to provide all technical guidance to his team as a technical director.
Mr. Poshan Dhungana is Structural Engineer by profession and has been working with ESS since September 2015. He is involved in the retrofit design of buildings at national and international level. He is involved in the retrofit design of two heritage buildings in Rongthung Bhutan. He worked as a lead structural engineer for Retrofit design of 10 school buildings with 28 blocks and Multi-hazard risk assessment of 30 schools of Doti district. He is also involved in the retrofit design of Shree Raithane Secondary school at Thangpalkot, Sindhupalchowk. He also has designed two community library buildings in Dolakha and Nuwakot districts. He is also involved in various retrofit design of residential buildings in Kathmandu valley. Mr. Dhungana was involved in the retrofit design of steel structure, inside the premise of the US Embassy Kathmandu. He has also carried out seismic vulnerability assessment of overhead tank at Damak and more than 20 buildings of various typology. Apart from the retrofit design and design of new buildings, Mr. Dhungana was also involved in conducting the trainings and coordinating with the government authorities. Prior to joining ESS, he was involved in design works of water retaining structure, water tanks, overhead tanks, bridge, various buildings and also in designing different components of hydropower structures. He was also involved in the cost estimation, preparation of technical specification and tender document. Mr. Dhungana holds M.Tech Degree (2010-2012) in structural engineering from SRM University, Tamil Nadu, India. His research area is behavior of infilled frame structure. His M.Tech thesis title is “Parametric Study on The Behaviour of Infilled Frame with Pneumatic Interface”. He has attended several national level training programs on Structural, Earthquake and Geotechnical Engineering. He was involved as a volunteer in post damage assessment of private and public buildings under the Nepal Engineering Association. Mr. Dhungana is also member of various professional engineering association.
Ms. Rashmi Dahal, an Architect and urban planner by profession has been currently working in Earthquake Safety Solutions (ESS), Nepal. She was awarded with ‘Nepal Vidhya Bhusan padak’ Nepal in the year 2017. She has also been felicitated by RUPSON (Regional and Urban Planners’ Society of Nepal) for securing highest marks in thesis towards M.Sc. Urban planning from Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus for the year 2015. Ms. Dahal has a professional record in urban planning, Sustainable planning and design, Architectural/Engineering design, Master plan design, 3D modelling, publications and Academic research. Prior to working at ESS, she was involved in the Preparation of building byelaws in new emerging municipalities of Nepal (Bhimeshwor, Karyabinayak and Shankharapur) at NSET, Nepal. Ms. Dahal was also enrolled as a team member in the preparation of “Model Building Bye-laws for the Urban Areas” as well as “Nepal Urban Environmental Byelaws” for Department of Urban development and building Construction (DUDBC). Besides her professional career as a planner, she previously served as a lecturer in Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk campus and as an Architect in ‘Department of urban development and building construction (DUDBC)’ in the Past.
Mr. Prakash Guragain is Earthquake Engineer by profession and has been working with ESS since August 2015. He has been involved in performing design of earthquake resistant new design of buildings ,post-earthquake damage assessments ,seismic vulnerability assessment and retrofitting design of all kinds of buildings as well. He is also involved in managing and conducting technical trainings coordinating with local and central levels government authorities. He was involved in seismic vulnerability assessment and retrofit design of private and public schools under District education office as a NSET volunteer before joining ESS. He also has worked as civil engineer for short period at EERT division in NSET-Nepal before. Mr. Guragain is also member of various professional engineering associations.
Mr. Deepak Shrestha is a Civil engineer with the degree of civil engineering from IOE, Pulchowk campus with first division. He has more than 6 years experience over the construction management sector. He had worked as site engineer for CE Construction Pvt Ltd where he had been engaged in construction activities & supervised 3 major projects before and now he has been working with Earthquake Safety Solutions ESS since December 2015 as Project Engineer for various constructional and retrofitting work conducted under the design and supervision of ESS. He has good experience in project management and resource mobilization as he was involved in several construction projects in Nepal with private sectors for more than 2 and half years before joining ESS in December 2015. Mr. Shrestha has also engaged in "Post Disaster Need Assessment Program" conducted by National Development Volunteer Service (NDVS) as volunteer civil engineer in Ramechhap district which is one of the affected district due to the major earthquake and its aftershock occurred at 12th, 13th and 29th Baishak 2072 for 2 months duration (May 2015 to July 2015). Before involvement in NDVS he has actively participated in “Rapid Visual Assessment of Earthquake Affected Buildings” program conducted by Nepal Engineering Association immediately after major earthquake and inspected more than 250 affected residential building around Kathmandu district. Furthermore, as NVDS Volunteer Engineer, he has been selected as the team coordinator for the district under which he has coordinated his 12 team member (civil engineers) and also worked as volunteer of technical sector in engineer post under District Technical Office, Ramechhap for the end of the fiscal year 2071/72.
Mr. Dipu Chapagain is an enthusiastic Civil Engineer by profession and was associated with ESS since April 2016. He has been involved with ESS in various seismic risk reduction projects such as supervision of new building construction projects. He also works as a quantity surveyor of the various retrofitting projects designed by ESS. He keenly involves in the monitoring of safety and daily work progress at the construction sites during the supervision. Additionally, he was also involved in assisting the communities in building earthquake resilient structures through awareness raising, capacity building and actions on risk reduction and preparedness trainings. His responsibilities at ESS include working as a site engineer in designated construction sites and assisting in various other ongoing projects. He was associated with NSET at School Earthquake Safety Program (SESP) as a Construction site supervisor as he was involved in school construction projects before joining ESS. Mr. Chapagain holds Bachelors’ Degree in Civil Engineering from, Institute of Engineering, (IOE, Pulchowk Campus), Tribhuvan University, Nepal. His Final year Project was “Structural Seismic Vulnerability Assessment and retrofit design”. He has experience in working as a site engineer for various construction sites in Sindhuli, Dolakha; including Construction of earthquake resistant buildings for official purposes and Seismic retrofitting of existing buildings.
Mr. Sudridh Tandukar is a Civil Engineer by profession and has been working with ESS since July 2016. His responsibilities at ESS include working as a site engineer in designated construction sites, preparing of quantity & cost estimates, preparing construction schedules and assisting in various other projects. Mr. Tandukar holds Bachelors’ Degree in Civil Engineering from Himalaya College of Engineering, Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has experience in working as a site engineer for various construction sites in and around Kathmandu, Nepal; including Construction of earthquake resistant buildings for official purposes and Seismic retrofitting of existing buildings.
Mr. Hari Basnet is civil engineer with the degree of civil engineering from Acme Engineering College. He has more than 3 years’ experience over the construction management sector. Previously he had worked as site engineer for comfort housing Pvt Ltd where he had been engaged in construction activities & supervised major projects. He has been working with Earthquake Safety Solutions ESS since February 2017 as Civil Engineer for various constructional and retrofitting work conducted under the design and supervision of ESS. He has good experience in project site supervision and resource mobilization as he was involved in several construction projects in Nepal with private sectors for more than 2 years before joining ESS in February 2017.
Mr. Prakash Maharjan is draft person by profession with the Diploma in Architectural engineering. He has more than 12 years’ experience of drawing and drafting in variety of projects ranging from buildings to hydropower. He has also worked in cost estimation and BOQ preparation. He is also involved in architectural design of residential, school and other buildings. Prior to joining ESS Mr. Maharjan was involved in the site supervision of building projects. He has good experience in resource mobilization as he was involved in several construction projects with various government organizations.
Ms. Nirjana Palanchoke is an Architect by profession and has been working with ESS since September 2016 for architectural planning,designing,detail drawing,3d,interior design.Her responsibilities at ESS include developing of conceptual planning and designing for earthquake risk reduction, field visit, architectural and structural detail drawing. . Ms. Nirjana Palanchoke holds Bachelor in Architecture from Khwopa Engineering College, Purwanchal University, Nepal. Her bachelor thesis title is Thesis in “Grass skii resort” Nuwakot, Nepal (B. Arch 2013).She has work experienced in Nepal and Thailand. She has worked as an architect in CAGE consult Pvt. Ltd for two years.At there,She was involved in several hospital, corporate, commercial, residential, institutional buildings projects. At ESS,She has been working in community,residential building design and planning,estimating,seismic retrofitting of residential building,3ds,interior.She has also experience on different training program held by NSET, ESS.
Mr. Subash Bastola is a Structural Engineer by profession and has been working in ESS since July 2016. He is involved in the design of community building, residential and steel structures, post-earthquake damage assessment, retrofit design and as an instructor in various training related to earthquake resistance building and structures. Before joining ESS, he was involved in similar kind of design works and was also involved in design of hydropower components in private organization. He has also worked as a lecturer in structural engineering in IOE, pachchimanchal campus and other private colleges. Mr. Bastola holds Msc Degree in Structural Engineering from IOE, Pulchowk Campus, Nepal. His master thesis title is “Seismic Vulnerability Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Multi-Column Bridge Pier”. He has attended various national level trainings on Structural and Earthquake Engineering.
